Fly Fishing for Carp - Long live the revolution, don't mind the stench.

When New Orleans canal Carpin turns to Fly-GARpin. What a blast, what an awesome fish!!!! Next time I am in New Orleans I may actually skip the carp and focus on these!

When spawning season hits, don't despair. You can have some of the best fly fishing for carp of the year targeting "Wallflowers" - which are carp that are resting or feeding just off to the side from the main spawning grounds.

Carp On The Fly On The SUP: Episode 5

www.flycarpin.com - In this video I managed to capture one of the best carp on the fly takes I have ever gotten. At the time, this was also my biggest carp of 2014. This carp was a little over 18 pounds and was caught with a Sculpin Helmet McLuvin carp fly from my Standamaran home-made standup paddleboard in about a foot of water.

www.flycarpn.com - In this episode I catch a large 18lb mirror on the fly from my DIY Standamaran SUP that was sunning in chest deep flooded brush. This is a behavior pattern that is virtually impossibe to catch on foot but the SUP seems to be very effective at catching these kind of carp. This carp was caught on a black Martin's Carp Bitter

In this episode my good friend Chris Galvin lands a beastly 18lb carp on a small black leech fly from a rented standup paddleboard. Don't miss my crowning achievement as a youtuber when I captured Chris falling off his SUP! You may also notice that he is using a 5 gallon bucket with a notch cut in it for a rod / paddle holder - which is a good inexpensive trick for a rented board at home or on ...

www.flycarpin.com - This is the first in a series showing catching carp while fly fishing from standup paddeboards (SUP). In this episode I catch a nice 14 pound carp slow cruising through flooded brush in a Colorado reservoir. I caught this carp on a leech fly from my home-made standamaran style standup paddleboard specifically designed and build for chasing carp.

Is it ok to use red vinyl ribbing if you don't have amnesia? Thanks for the video!
thank you. If I have understood, you do not make a normal cast because you do not want to cross with the fly line above the carp. Very intelligent, my compliments
Yo thanks a lot
Very helpful, thank you!
Brilliant project "boat" - have to try a DIY foam build project myself!
Fabulous, thank you! This fly works so well I felt a bit guilty! I took some liberties (due to my own laziness) like skipping the bodkin (my foam tool itself holder helped get each little disc onto the needle), using red vinyl instead of amnesia, using two small glass beads/no metal bead on the tail, used 12 discs, quadrupled 6/0 thread instead of big game thread to make the tail, and used a similar hook (it looks very similar to the end product). It’s cheap and doesn’t take long to tie. Thanks for sharing this recipe, Fly-Carpin.
Thank you all data you put it in the web, It so helpful .
Any build videos ?
How much weight can it hold I'm 230
at www.flycarpin.com/p/diy-standamaran-stand-up-paddleboard.html there is a drawing with different lengths appropriate for different weight people.
How long is your leader when doing the drag and drop?
Nice video - clear, easy to follow and no drama. Thanks for posting!
This is brilliant. Thanks!!
I laughed too hard. I am watching the rest of what you have!
Excellent video. I use D&D on redfish in the salt. I learned a few finer points in this video that will translate to the salt.
qoestion i dont understand what is the 140 mean ? i order other stuff need but need to buy the thread reason when i buy fly reel it not come with a loop i so glad i see your video its the best idea tomake loop thank you
Works great for me in South Africa, I just two rubber red legs for the tail instead of chennile, makes it just a bit more durable and the carp love it... thanks for sharing this pattern
What's the verdict, half super glue many dont?
What type of fly line and weight rod do you prefer the most ?
a ned rig look
I laughed at the bathtub video. It looks very cartoonish. I bet it's deadly on carp though, I'll give it a try!

Watched your video and went out the next day to some flooded ponds and caught my first ever carp on a fly I made myself!!! Wow a five pounder only and one more the same size. Thank you for your help!!!!
Andy Borzick first carp on a fly you tied? right on you must be psyched!
I believe the trilene knot is the better knot for bigger line 15-40lbs. improved 20 or below.
Ace Knot. By Far the Best ilustration of a loop knot. I will use it from now on.
what are the dimensions of this board?
nice video mate, please check out my footage when you can and if you like what you see please subscribe that would be greatly appreciated
I’ve done this and I like it .
Nice video but if you don’t mind me saying, why not use the traditional heat shrink tubing method using a heat gun and physically weld the loop together followed up by this extra method of thread wrapping + superglue with a final resin coating. Not too sure if the added weight would be helpful with floating lines unless you wanted a sinking tip but then again the weight may not be an issue. Food for thought at least.
fantastic...i follow u on instagram!!! jampa_fishing
would it be better if you shave one side flat with a razor blade?
Very cool fly, can't wait to try it out
Putting down a legend like Lefty Kreh on your video! your an idiot!
Darren I love the bathtub footage
nice
That is basically flippin like for bass fishing, good video.
What the fuck was this?
You look like Ace Ventura with a cap on.
Jeez, you guys need to get over yourselves.
This helped me a bunch and now I always use this method. Thanks for making the vid!
Thanks for that video I will try that
Holy damn that's sexy... Like it bud big ups
Excellent job looks awesome !
Wow you really horsed that thing in! The last carp I caught was 12 lbs and it took me 15 minutes to get the thing in. Granted, I didn't have a net and I was using a 6 weight and 12 lb test.
@mitchel jacob - I don't mess around. I typcially take about 2 to 3 minutes maximum to land a carp.
it's like the Chinese finger trap
I have been trying to catch gar on the fly for a while now. Mind sharing any tips on setting the hook on a gar? Thats my biggest issue!
+PonyFoot123 I have only ever caught a few of these and some of those were on rooe flies. On this trip I got 6 takes, hooked two and landed one. The one I landed was in the tongue inside the mouth. That is actually better than I have done in the past with a hook so I do wonder if it being a relatively small and sharp short shank Gamakatsu glo-bug hook that would get inside the mouth helped?
What flie did you use
was cruising around looking for stength tests - nonslip(krey) vs perfection loop, which a recent presenter was pretty proud of, I think the nonslip is better and I've been using it on the salt for years. Nice presentation.
Lars Lutton Thanks! I have never personally tested it against perfection loop but odds are pretty good this crushes it since it places as best or very close to best in every test I have found that compares it to other knots.
Hello @Fly-Carpin I LOVE this build/design. I am a (poor) college student wanting to make a craft that can handle inshore saltwater fishing and I think this is the jackpot. There is one problem, however it is not specific to your build. Most diy SUP builds I see the builder uses XPS foam which is supposedly waterproof, but then goes ahead and applies fiberglass+epoxy. Why is this? do you think it would work without it? Thanks for your time.
Fernando Carvallo You HAVE to have the fiberglass. It provides the strength and impact resistance. You can break one of the foam pontoons easily without it just by stomping on it and the platform would never stand up to your weight. that being said, the fiberglass absolutely does not have to be waterproof. mine has many dozens of pinholes left over from build ohase and another 10 or so hole in the glass where I have dropped it on sharp gravel.
Thank you for your response! That makes total sense. What do you think about using the Poor Man's Fiberglass method in place of actual epoxy+fiberglass? Are you familiar with this method?
Wow... fast, You dragged and dropped and he was right on it. Nice job, Trev.
Msquad321 It was one of those swim through the fly and suck it in mid column with barely a pause takes. Pretty cool
